Hopeless — the most dangerous of illusions

B Russia almost everyone knows the concept

About the concept

And pro

The essence of the learned helplessness is that in a difficult situation that seems to people outside their control, they are inclined to become depressed and helpless, without attempting to correct the situation.

As a result: passivity and rejection of actions, even when some possibility of changing anything in the situation appears.

Outcome: Depression of hopelessness — the illusory cognitive state of a person who arises from him not so much due to the non-controlling of the situation, as due to the interpretation of its negative experience.

However, experiments show that they meet

At the «strong nuts» just different

As shown in the works

As it was later shown in the «Hope theory» developed by Charles Snider,

✔ ‘goals for the future;

✔️ specific «paths» or plans of how to achieve these goals;

✔ ️ targeted energy (faith in what goals are achievable).

Only so you can arouse a sense of control over your life, demonstrating the freedom of will in your aspirations — in contrast to the feeling of helplessness.

And it works! What is proved experimentally.

In conclusion, I will give a pair of examples (positive and negative) concerning technological opportunities to overcome the seeming hopelessness.

1) Overcoming the restrictions of freedom of obtaining information on the Internet.

All these limitations are easily massively overcome using VPN.
To do this, it took: a) put a goal — I want to have access; b) Find the path is a specific VPN) and c) to show targeted energy — to master this technology.

2) Overcoming leading to the learned helplessness of installations

It is not always so. As Example 1 shows, technological aspects (clearing the path to freedom) can overcome political (establishing the forefront on the way to freedom).

And if the society, for example, sharply opposed the disconnection of the mass broadcast on the Internet video from polling stations (up to readiness to pay for it himself), the election results could be different.

Similarly, with my yesterday’s post about the use of AI to solve the problem of bad roads and cutting budgets for their repair. Who prevents to revive something like the Rosham project using AI in the country with such a number of DVRs?
